Well, if you are over the age of 18, here are some options:
Domain Lagoon- Basically a site where you complete offers and get points, and blah blah blah, you probably heard the concept before. If you are under 18, you can try it, but as a person over the age of 18, I got very intimidated with the fact that they verify your account via phone apparently, which I found weird. Not sure if it's true, but that's what I gathered.
And then there's the whole Microsoft Live thing, but you'll have to verify your age with a credit card. There'll be NO fees, they just need it to verify your age.
There aren't a lot of options if you are under the age of 18.
I don't trust Domain Lagoon or Microsoft, but people have gotten free domains from them apparently, but I can't say whether or not any of them were teenagers/pretteens.
