How does one find the Domain and Range of a graph?

Write the domain and range of h as intervals or unions of intervals.

I have no idea what I'm doing. Something about unions and what not?

Domain = Input = Range on X axis
Range = Output = Range on Y axis
Domain = -4 to -2, 1 to 3
Range = -1 to 5

The domain is the set of all x-values and the range is the set of all y-values.
So, the domain is (-4<x< or = -2) U (1 < x < 3), and the range is (-1 < y < 5). The 'U' stands for 'union' or the word 'or'.

The intervals should be:
D: (-4, -2] U (1, 3)
R: (-1, 5)
The bracket in the domain is because the graph includes the endpoint at x = -2. Parentheses are used when the endpoints are not included.

On the piece of the graph on the left, the values of x (horizontal axis) start at -4, which is not included and go up to and including -2. Therefore, the domain of that section is
(-4,-2]
The values of x for the piece on the right start at 1 which is not included and goes up to 3, which is also not included. The open circle tells you the number is not included. Therefore, the domain of that section is
(1,3)
The domain of the function is then
(-4,-2] union (1,3)
The range of a function is the values of y on the vertical axis. In this case, it starts at -1, which is not included and goes up to 5 which is also not included. Therefore, the range is
(-1,5)
