Does it matter through whom I register my domain name?

Posted on May 31, 2008 under domain news and reports | 7 Comments

I want to register a domain name through a free hosting service. But I'm not sure how good their customer service is. If I'm not happy with the service and I want to move my site to another host, I'll have to have the domain name point to the new site. I just need to know if this is a simple (and inexpensive) process and if moving the domain name could cause any problems.

It will matter if at all you ever land into legal trouble.

  2. Moving your domain could prove awkward. Some hosting services do not provide redirection services and so the only option would be to let the domain expire, wait 60 days, and then hope that it hasn't been snagged by someone else when you want to re-register it.

It's easy enough to find out if the service you're looking at provides domain redirection. Just read the FAQs on their site, or call them up (imagine that).

Personally, I will not deal with free providers. I find that by paying for my regsitration and hosting it gives me a lot more freedom with my site, and I won't find that the rug has been pulled out from underneath me one day. Paid providers have a lot more incentive to maintain a status quo, even when they upgrade their service. I have one domain registered with Yahoo! and even though they haven't offered that plan for the last three years my service is as it was the day I signed up. A free service would inflict the upgrade on you whether you wanted it or not. In my case, Yahoo! ceased to offer one technology in favor of another. The new plan didn't include any kind of database option; something I need to run my site.

No, it doesnt matter, as long are you are ready to cough up the fees and that they will be able to to help you when you get into some trouble, it generally good to go with reputed site hosting domains, like yahoo.

    Yes, of course
Because trusted hosting services have better servers and backbone facilities.
You should register a free domain name as a subdomain or as a paid service, it is up to you.
Here I add some domain services just see if you satisfy.
I have tested bravenet a good and prompt service. Also, I have tested a stand alone free domain to redirect to the other subdomain.

  5. It’s better to leave Windows XP and just upgrade your laptop. It’s much better. Besides, Windows XP is way better then Windows Me. Windows Me is obsolete and many programs that can run with XP, can’t run with Me.
