    ISPs provide internet service, Web Hosting companies provide hosting for websites.

    Your ISP is your internet connection provider. If they do web hosting, that is separate; so don't be confused.

    A so-called Virtual Web hosting server can be programmed with multiple domain names. Let's follow the breadcrums:

    1. URL – the user types the website address

    2. The address is looked up through the DSN to find the NAME SERVER. This goes through the name provider.

    3. The NAME server converts this to the IP Address of the web host.

    4. The webhost validates the name, and sub-domain (www and others) and starts to deliver the proper website to the user.

    ISP's connect users to the Internet backbone connections, while web hosting companies run web servers that are directly connected to the backbone.

    Web server host multiple domains by having separate accounts for each domain. Each account has its own folder (/home/accountname on a *nix server). Whenever a user enters a domain in their web browser, the server points your web browser to the specific account's folder.
