you can check on the domain name availability in yahoo

a domain is a website name such as Yahoo.com
or http://www.ebay.com
those are there domain names so if you wanted
http://www.myname.com you would do a search to see if anyone is already using it

Checking the availability of a particular website…
If you want a new website, you do a domain search for the name…

a domain name is for example johnsmith@yahoo.com. you can buy out certain names and sell them for use (not on yahoo but elsewhere) there are some companies who buy out these names and sell them to buisnessowners for websites. So, for example,a company named Car's r Us may search for the name Carsrus.com for when they want to set up a website.
