Cannot logon to Domain Controller in Windows Server 2003?
Posted on Jul 01, 2008 under domain news and reports | 6 CommentsI got a Trojan Horse on one of my servers and it is also a domain controller. Now I believe I have cleaned everything up but now I can't do certain things on the server. Whenever I try to logon I receive an error that says the netlogon service is not running on the machine and will not let me log on to the domain. So I log on locally and try to start the service but I receive an error 10044. I'm not sure what to do, I checked the Microsoft website and it says to uninstall and reinstall TCP/IP but I can't do that either. So now I'm totally lost, if anyone has any solution it would be greatly appreciated.

I hate to tell you this but your shortest way to resolution is reformat, once a domain controller gets that corrupted you can effect all kinds of repairs and spend hours diagnosing problems, but since you have more then one server, promote one of the others to DC and demote the one you are having problems with.. then reformat it, active directory will contain all your users and domain info so when you reformat and readd it to the domain not much will be lost and the server will be back to 100%…
