Can I buy a domain name on GoDaddy and use it with iWeb and a .Mac account?

Posted on Dec 29, 2008 under GoDaddy.com | 12 Comments

I want to get a .com domain name, and I have .Mac and iWeb and want to create a website. I figure I can link the .com name to my .Mac website. Is this correct? If it is, is GoDaddy who I want to use or should I use a different company to buy the website name?

  1. Here is the thing, if your .mac or iweb(I don't know anything about these) uses DNS then you can link your http://www.sitename.com from a register like http//:godaddy.com or any other domain register.

    You should send a request to .mac or iweb and ask them if they support domain names.

  2. Several methods will be explained below:

    Yes, you can. its just a redirect in the html code to the other a website. Even domain name redirection to webhosting works.

    For what you need:
    Place the following HTML redirect code between the <HEAD> and </HEAD> tags of your HTML code:

    <meta HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" content="0; url=http://www.yourdomain.com/index.html">

    The above HTML redirect code will redirect your visitors to another web page instantly. The content="0; may be changed to the number of seconds you want the browser to wait before redirecting.

    change url content to contain your .mac website.

    To viewers who do not know:

    * iWeb is a website and blog creation tool.
    * his .mac homepage is something like:
    homepage.mac.com/Noam/

    A redirection from another webpage of a site of a domain name like: http://www.noam.com to his .mac home page was explained above.

    Noam, If you don't want your .mac url to appear and still want to host with mac you have to discuss this with mac. but i don't think that they will allow you to change this because your url advertises for mac.

    However, you can create a .tk domain name account and have this domain name appear instead of your .mac account. To do that, register with http://www.dot.tk. its so easy, and your domain name will look like http://www.noam.tk
    Note: Your tk domain name is directed to TK nameservers, which redirect HTTP traffic via HTML frames to a specified web page (your .mac).

    This means instead of creating a .com account with godaddy, you will create a .tk account with dot.tk .

    Note: you can have the .tk along with another .com which will refer to the the same .mac pages.
    example you can have: http://www.noam.com registered with godaddy and having in its html code the redirection url to your http://www.noam.tk which is:
    <meta HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" content="0; url=http://www.noam.tk">
    with .tk directed to you .mac url.

    The final appearance of the url will be http://www.noam.tk and NOT your .mac url.

  3. ask iweb first, but you would just change the dns, its pretty easy to do. my domain is registered through godaddy and hosted elsewhere
