I need a domain name + web hosting…. Which one do you recommend?
Posted on Jan 02, 2009 under web hosting | 7 CommentsI'm based in the UK and my son wants to create his own website. Any advice on prices and providers would be much appreciated! (We are not interested in the free hosts, we want our own site) Thanks in advance!

http://www.Godaddy.com has good offers to give. Then Yahoo domains are also good. Its better to get a .com domain than a .net becoz everyone first tries the .com domain.

I would recommend checking out – http://www.webhostingjury.com . It's your best bet for objective, USER feedback on hosts, including very little advertising and honest opinions. Good luck in finding a good host – it's a challenge!!

I have used domain registrars like Register, Dotster, Yahoo, and 1and1. Personally, I find 1and1 to be the best out there. I have now transferred most of my domains from the other registrars to 1and1.
1and1 Internet offers the best domain package around for $5.99, which includes free 1GB email/Webmail, 5-page starter Web site and lots of tools/softwares to get you online. View sample free Web sites (that come with a 1and1 domain package) that you can create yourself at:

1and1 also offers the best web hosting packages out there. They start as low as $2.99 and come with lots of softwares and tools to help you develop your site and get it online. View sample web sites hosted by 1and1 at:

godaddy is the best for domains, cheapest and easiest interface to use – however with hosting, there are better plans with more features on the hosting side, such as bluehost or startlogic or even yahoo hosting (a little more expensive)

Godaddy is the standard answer you're probably going to get. But if someone complains about your son spamming them or whatever, Godaddy will likely shoot first and ask questions later and shut down that domain. That's the horror story I've heard time and time again.
Not that your son would spam anyone, it's just that people might mistakenly think he is and complain to the web host or Godaddy (or both).
I'd go with Namecheap or 1&1. Namecheap seems a little faster in getting the DNS info propogated but that might just be my own weird experience.
In terms of prices and providers for hosting, I'd say start off with something inexpensive ($10 – $15 USD) but with all the features he needs now and that will allow him to easily upgrade if he needs to down the road (like more space, bandwidth, etc).
You might want to check out this site for more info on hosting. The web hosting recommendations are pretty solid.

Good luck to you and your son with the new site!
