Where google and yahoo get their web hosting?

Big companies like Yahoo and Google, have their own web servers. They are these gigantic compters that are normally 7 feet tall and they hold terbites of memory. (A Teribite is 1000 Gigs) Only the bigest of companies have thier own web servers because web servers cost hundreds o thousands of dollars.

Because they have such large networks, they run their own servers and datacenters. To connect to the internet, they go directly to tier 1 providers like level3 (http://www.level3.com/ ) and UUNET (now part of Verizon).

Companies like yahoo & geocities had massive capital when they started they would have purchased lots of servers and very expensive connections to the internet.I know google used to be partnered with yahoo quite closely so they may have shared yahoos resources in the early days. Now they would have their own. This is all you would need to provide web hosting facilites.
Lots of cash is basically the answer.
to run a smaller operation. You can pay other companies to give you access to their servers and high bandwidth (called 'dedicated servers') You can then pretend they belong to you when customers want to host websites on them
