free domain at godaddy?

I have never heard of this, I have been a loyal GoDaddy cutomer for years.
I would like to hear more about this.

1) SOMEONE paid for the name – ICANN doesn't give free names, as virthday presents or anything else.
2) If he has it hosted at GoDaddy, someone is paying for the hosting. GoDaddy doesn't host for free.

Actually, go daddy does give out free domains.
My friend gets two of them a month and idk how he does
but he gave me one and its not

but i also own my own server
and so does he so that might solve the question.
