I've used dayanahost before running my own server. Excellent customer service. http://www.dayanahost.com/
Stay away from godaddy. No customer service to speak of.
If you have some special questions/needs, contact me off list to discuss.

There are quite a few good reliable webhosting like yahoo, hostmonster, ixhost, bluehost and ipower etc… They got their own strength like webspace, bandwidth etc…

godaddy sucks, I moved all my websites from godaddy to http://aplis.net/ so far I did not have any problem with web hosting.

I have used http://www.oneworlddomains.com for about three years and I am very happy with them. Good prices and 24/7 phone support.
When comparing companies watch for these things:
1. Read carefully what is included – they bundle services differently and it can be confusing/hard to compare.
2. Phone support (preferably 24/7) – no time to wait for email answers.
3. Ease of Use – Browse the registrars site, if it is hard to get around (slow or not intuitive), then it will probably harder to use their services.
4. Knowledge Base – Check out the help section – Lots of FAQ's, guides, tutorials will help you down the road.
Good Luck!

I am an art director and designer and I've had very good luck with Bargain Beaver.
Bargain Beaver (bargainbeaver.com), is a new domain company that has domains for only $1.99 a year with hosting. Their regular domain price is only $6.95–that's more than 3 bucks cheaper than GoDaddy.
They have 24-hour customer support too, you really can't beat the service.

I'm not sure what you need as a Graphic Designer when choosing a web host and buying a domain name.
I personally don't think it's a good idea to buy domain names and web hosting from the same company.
For domain names I use NameCheap: http://www.namecheap.com/
And for hosting I use Hostgator: http://secure.hostgator.com/cgi-bin/affiliates/clickthru.cgi?id=ybaff
I've used both for years because they have excellent customer service and all the features you need at very low prices.
Hope it helps.
