Does Bluehost allow you to build your own website from scratch?
Posted on Jul 14, 2009 under Bluehost.com | 9 CommentsI want to build my website from scratch, as in write out all the coding (CSS and HTML) for it. I used to use Freewebs, and they had a page-editor that allowed you to type and upload all of your coding for your site.
Does Bluehost have a simliar feature? I checked their features list and demo, but all I found was a template builder.

You don’t need any kind of site builder at Bluehost; all you need is the ability to FTP to the Web server. You can write all this stuff in any text editor. (For six years, I did an entire site in WordPad.)

Yes, they do allow that. All professional hosts do.
I recommend one of these:
http://www.webhostingtable.com/
Powweb currently has the best offer.
Their standard price is $7.77/month ($93.24/year)
but they have the 50% sale right now.
Disk space: Unlimited
Bandwidth: Unlimited
A Free domain name
Unlimited domains and subdomains
Price: $3.88/month ($46.56/year)
The way to do it is to write the files using any text editor you like and than just upload them to your host using any FTP client (like Filezilla).

Not going to touch the web hosting part of it, but if you are serious about being a good web designer, get this book – it is amazing, it got me up and running in no time. It shows you how to build web sites the way the professionals do it. Can’t recommend it enough!

You can use Bluehost to design your site using their template builder. And just view the HTML to access and work with the raw HTML code using CSS.
Very intuitive and works well. And Bluehost offers solid web hosting for a $3.95 promotion at http://www.bluehost-info.com
