Domain registration -why should I pay godaddy.com?
Posted on Aug 19, 2009 under GoDaddy.com | 4 CommentsI want to register a domain name which is not used by any (means, shows as ‘available for registration’ at godaddy.com. They are charging me some amount and that too valid only for a year.
If the name is not registered by any, why should I pay godaddy?
What happens if I go ahead and create that site? If so, can somebody register that name and take the ownership of my site?

You pay godaddy because hosting your site isn’t free and when people type in your web address it needs to link them to somewhere through something else, and that something else is go daddy. It’s pretty cheap.

You have to pay someone to register your site – the way it works (in real simple terms) is that the registration sites create the addresses that identify your site and allow the internet to connect to your site. By registering, your site now has an official address along with a DNS name linking the two – DNS directories get updated and people can find you. By not registering, someone else can take the name, since technically, it is not being used.
