How do I get a domain name transferred to me through Godaddy.com?

Posted on Aug 19, 2009 under GoDaddy.com | 7 Comments

I am supposed to be taking control of a website. The domain is registered with godaddy.com and I would like to host website there as well. Is there a way for me to have it transferred through godaddy? How do I do this and what information do I need to provide to the person who currently has the website in order to make this happen? Thanks in advance!

  1. So you are taking over that website? The easy way would be to just get the account from the other person. You would need the account name and password, and once your logged it you could just update/change all the contact information to match yours.

If you don’t want to transfer the entire account, I would probably contact customer service or look at their FAQ to see if they have some option available to transfer the website from one account to another.

    Hello,

To transfer your domain to Godaddy.com, you must first login to the control panel for the domain where it is now, unlock the domain, and they will then initiate the transfer.

When they initiate a transfer of a domain, Godaddy.com sends out an email to the administrative contact on that domain. This requests the authorization/EPP code to be entered to verify ownership of the account and to authorize the transfer. At that point it can take up to 10 days for the transfer to fully go through.

In the interim, it is a good idea before requesting the transfer to change the nameservers, since this usually only takes 2 to 48 hours to propagate and you can get your site online faster.

    Good Luck!
