I have a domain registered at Godaddy, but I want my site to be hosted at byethost. How can I do this?

I want to register a domain name which is not used by any (means, shows as ‘available for registration’ at godaddy.com. They are charging me some amount and that too valid only for a year.
If the name is not registered by any, why should I pay godaddy?

i’m thinking on changing my hosting provider because the one I have really sucks; the web pages I have there often fail (data base service) and I’d like to be on a reliable one.
Is Godaddy a good hosting ? What about the speed they have ? Does anyone have a bad experience with them ? Is there any other hosting service you could recommend me ?

i need help. im really confused by what godaddy means. Do i get a free domain or what exactly is it? i have a current domain, but i’d like to get a new name, and i thought this has to be to good to be true, but i thought i’d give it a try. but is it like example.currentdomain.com or is it a whole new one like newdomain.net (haha)… please help thanks so much!
