Posted on Oct 10, 2009 under GoDaddy.com | So I was going to register a domain name with GoDaddy, which sounds simple enough until I got to the checkout page.
This is an example of the checkout page as provided by an information site: http://z.about.com/d/webdesign/1/0/y/U/1/godaddy6.png
The thing that confused me is where it said "If you are hosting these domains elsewhere, click here to set nameservers."
Right now, I do plan to find a different web hosting service (linux-based) that allows you to add both a blog and a forum.
The problem is that I haven’t purchased any web hosting, so how would I know the nameservers. I’m lost as to what to do.
Do I just park the domain at GoDaddy, purchase web hosting, and change the nameservers per the web host’s instructions later?
Please help if you’ve gone through this process.
Posted on Oct 10, 2009 under GoDaddy.com | Yesterday around 6:30 I signed up and got my domain name and payed for my web hosting. it says "Current Hosting Account Status: Pending Setup " and it said it should be ready in under 24 hours. its been 24 and a half hours about now. Is this wierd or am i just impatiant?
Posted on Oct 10, 2009 under GoDaddy.com | I have one domain name and my web hosting company helped me login my godaddy account and then entered their name servers in the "custom nameservers". And I also use email forwarding plan of godaddy and there are some email forwarding entries already created.
Now in the control panel of my web hosting, I have created two MX records to point to the godaddy’s MX servers:
abc.commailstore1.secureserver.net.10
abc.comsmtp.secureserver.net.0
Although this works with no problem. But whenever a email is sent to my domain, the email will first go to the MX servers of my web hosting company and then according to the MX records, they send the email to the godaddy’s MX servers and then godaddy will do the email forwarding.
My question is, can the email directly send to godaddy’s MX servers, without going through my web hosting company’s MX servers?
Thank you so much.
Posted on Oct 10, 2009 under GoDaddy.com | I have submitted the Yahoo transfer auth code to GoDaddy with success. Now GoDaddy and I are waiting for Yahoo to give me the final confirmation email. So guess what Yahoo sends me instead.. on a Friday evening at 4:30 pm? A notice telling me that they are going to auto renew all my domains on Monday for $34.95 each!
I called Godaddy immediately and they said it looks approved to them they don’t know why Yahoo is not sending me my confirmation email. I have read the horror stories about Yahoo charging for domains that have been long transferred and it looks like Yahoo is poised to charge my credit card $34.95 per domain Monday morning when I have already asked for and paid for a GoDaddy transfer renewal!
Should I cancel the Yahoo auto renewal (I can’t find instructions) or should I just cancel the Yahoo Domain Services without waiting for the confirmation email?
Does anyone else have experience with this? Please help!
