Wordpress, Bluehost, blogs…what to do ?

Posted on Feb 23, 2010 under Bluehost.com |

Right, so i’m confused.
I want to start a blog on wordpress but people tell me bluehost is useful. I’m not sure what it does exactly, i’m assuming it’s just a host ?
From what i gather, i should start a wordpress blog and then use it on a bluehost host….does that sound logical or am i just rambling nonsense ?
All i want to do is start my own blog but i dont want to have some half-wit blog creating site that looks like it’s operated by a 4 year old twilight fan.
Help.

  3. Hi Mr. TM,

Wordpress is a blogging platform. However, you can use it in two different ways.

    1) Sign up for an account on wordpress.com and start blogging. However, the URL of your site will be limited to <username>.wordpress.com. Moreover, you will not have the flexibility to install themes and plugins, etc.

    2) Install Wordpress on to your own web host, which is what it sounds like you are trying to do. Get a web hosting service from Bluehost, and then install Wordpress on it. That way, you have the flexibility to customize the underlying code whatever way you want.

    Good luck!

  4. Bluehost is a host and a domain registrar.

Easiest way to do this: buy a host package and a domain from Bluehost ($6.95 a month is a typical rate) and use their WordPress installer. Instant blog, with the least amount of work.

WordPress.com will host a blog for free, but you won’t have anywhere near as many options as you would with an independent WordPress blog.
