According to the pet trainer at pet co they are not bad at all because they are made out of things that the dog’s body can handle. Unlike raw hide and corn after they eat greenies they come out the other end nicely:) Also they do not contain floride which is not good for dogs.

greenies can help keep tartar off your dog’s teeth but you MUST be careful when you give them to your dog. first they are not miracle treat if your dog already has bad teeth, they should be cleaned by your vet. second i know of a vet clinic that had to do several sugeries on dogs that were blocked with greenies. some dogs chew off big pieces and those pieces get stuck in their stomach.

Greenies and rawhides CAN be bad for dogs. Removing large pieces from a blocked intestine is not uncommon since dogs don’t always chew sufficiently. In some cases it can be fatal. Additionally, abdominal surgery can be very risky and there are no guarantees of a full recovery. Always supervise your dogs if giving these treats. Better safe than sorry.

always use them under SUPERVISION. I once just gave it to my dog and let him chew on it thinking that it is harmless, my dog ended up producing green and watery feces, which is not good. They are OK, but just give it to them once a while and don’t let them have too much of it at once. Hope that helps!

I have Great Danes and German Shepherds. My dogs ONLY get Petite greenies (because I know they chew them up all the way) because I have seen dogs with the green runs. (yucky) They also only get one evyer couple days at the very most instead of the one a day which the package says. I also feed any rawhide this way. I give my dogs plenty of time to digest the rawhide or greenies before feeding them anything else and they only get rawhide every couple of weeks. The last thing I need is a surgury bill! As long as you are careful the dog should be fine.
I also agree with the precious comment about a miracle cure for bad breath. They help, but they are not going to fix the problem. Also, bad breath doesnt always stem from bad teeth. If the dogs teeth seem ok but the dog still has bad breath try some Charcoal biscuits, they help deoderize the digestive tract, as does the chlorophyl in the greenies. Merrick makes a little tub of real small "breath biscuits" with chlorophyll in them but they arent as hard as greenies, they are more like your typical Iams biscuit consistancy.
