If you are a healthy adult, from ages 16 to 37ish, no. 4-6 hours of sleep per night is optimal.
This will not shorten your life span, nor will it adversly affect your health.
Please bear in mind however, that if the status of your health changes to the negative, ie you get sick, you start to feel tired during the day, ect, you need to incerase the # of hours of sleep to a maxium of 7 for this age group.
Sleeping for more than 8 hours at a time without reason, ie if you are not sick, or if you are not in peak health, is unwarrented and can cause some medical issues such as apneia and compromised immune systems.
Idealy you wnat to get between 5 and 6 hours of sleep per night.

8 hours of sleep is the average amount of sleep most people need. If a person only needs 4-5 hours of sleep to function normally, it wouldn’t affect his/her health. However, if a person who needs 8 hours but only gets 4-5 hours a night, he/she will be constantly tired. It will affect his/her brain’s functionality. People who are deprived of sleep for extended period of time will also start to hallucinate.
Studies have found that people who average more than 8 hours of sleep for their lifetime tends to live shorter. But that could be an effect of health issues instead of being a cause.
