Which culture do you think over-emphasizes appearance, dress, body image and tangible aspects at the expense of what’ lies within? Which cultures encourage looks and appearance to trump quality and inner beauty? Why do you suppose this is so?

I have to doan essay on other forms of beauty depending on their culture.For example,the lipplates in africa.Orthe rings around the neck. Bindingof feet in China. Does anyone know other ideas besides those?
What are your preferences in terms of skin color, height, body structure, etc? What should be considered physically beautiful or not? Please expound on your answers. I’m quite interested on how people of different cultures view beauty. Thanks a lot!!
I definitely have noticed that we are far more youth and beauty and "thin" oriented than we have ever been in the past. This, in spite of the fact that Americans are older than before (baby boomers are now middle aged) and we are fatter than ever. What will be the consequences for our collective self esteem? Having physical flaws is becoming more and more unaccepted. I think people in our culture are expecting to be able to find partners who are more flawless than ever. For example, a 37 year old man I know said he doesn’t like his wife’s body! His wife, also 37 bore him 3 children!! What will be the effect? It’s interesting that there are more single households than ever before too… is this because our standards are higher than they should be? Comments that I have read here on this question/answer board seem to confirm what I’m saying here. Any thoughts?
Another example: I have a 34 year old male friend who is single, and he fully expects to marry a model – by his own admission. He’s currently pursuing an 18 year old brazilian dancer. I suspect he’ll be single for a long time!

Why is it that in Interracial Marriages, the men seem to get women who men of that race consider unnattractive.
For example, when White men and Black men date Asian women – Asian guys always claim that they think the girl they are dating is for whatever reason unnattractive.
The same thing goes for White guys with Black women or Blacks on Blondes or White/Blacks dating hispanics?
The thing is, if you ask a group of men in the male partner’s race how his (other race) girlfriend looks they all think she looks great???
What causes this Beauty culture gap?
like in china, small feet are considered beatuful…
in asia, people with big turned down eyes, oval face, high-nose,low cheekbones and white skin are considered beautiful whereas americans prefeer slanted eyes, high cheekbones and tanned skin…
